The University of Central Florida finished off the 2010 season in great fashion, beating the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 10-6 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. The team graduated quite a few seniors, so the 2011 team struggled to match the success of the previous year.

The Knights started the season ready to play and beat the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 62-0 in the home opener. Their good fortune continued the following week when they beat Boston College 30-3. UCF then lost two straight games for the first time in two years. They lost on the road to Florida International 17-10.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. They traveled to Utah the following week and were beat by BYU 24-17.

Two more losses in the following month came against Southern Methodist and UAB, but they were sandwiched between victories over Marshall and Memphis. The Knights then faced their toughest stretch of the season, losing to Tulsa, East Carolina and the 23rd-ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

The Knights faced the University of Texas-El Paso Miners in the final game of the season, and they were able to hold of a late charge and capture the victory 31-14. It was a long season for the Knights, but they were able to finish on a positive note.

Whether you’re a Phillie’s fan worried about home secrity Philadelphia or you’re more of a Braves kind of guy chowing down at the Varsity you’ve got to appreciate all the great teams in and around Orlando. It’s one of the most overlooked sports cities in the US but we don’t know why! There’s plenty to do here other than visit the mouse!
Orlando Magic – Overshadowed this year and last by the Miami Heat, the Magic actually has a pretty decent roster. With a lot of influential pull behind the scenes and a well-established fan base taking in a game can be a great activity.
Orlando Predators – If you’re into football but you just can’t swing the NFL enthusiasm you’ve got what you’re looking for with the AFL. The field is shorter and the action much closer and the Predators are one of the best teams in the country.
The Knights – The University of Central Florida actually has a pretty active athletic system with a powerhouse football and basketball team, too. It’s cheaper and more accessible than some of the pro sports in town!

Many people look at the Orlando Magic and just think about the players. However, the team is more than just the players. The team includes the coaching staff and the support staff. Once again, for the 2011-2012, Stan Van Gundy will be at the helm as the head coach. To help Van Gundy, he as five assistant coaches, a strength and conditioning coach and an athletic trainer and a strength and conditioning coordinator.

In 2007 Van Gundy came to the magic and led them to the division crown. The full explanation can be found at http://kobebeefnba.com/2011/08/03/stan-van-gundy-has-skills/ The assistant coaches, are usually assigned certain games and they need to come up with a game plan to put the Magic on the winning end. The trainers and conditioners, help the players to get in shape. They do this so they can do all the running they have to do, but also, so they will not injure themselves easily.

There is also front office support staff that play a big roll in the Magic’s success. There is the communications department, in charge of the programming and other communications, the public relations department, The general manager and the team announcers. All of these teams have one thing in common, a love for basketball and a love for the Magic.

The NBA season is drawing near, and the 2011-2012 Orlando Magic will definitely be a team to watch this year. Dwight Howard leads the way for the Magic, as he is regarded by the general basketball fan population as the best center in the league. The schedule for this year’s Orlando Magic features games against their usual Southeast Division rivals in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. They’ll compete against the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards in that division as well as other teams.Didn-t catch that? This explains it. Other great matchups on the schedule this year are games against the great veteran San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and Detroit Pistons.

With Howard being the main attraction on the court for the Magic, they should once again have a great season and a trip to the playoffs. The mammoth defensive stalwart has slowly been improving on his offensive game over the past few years and is primed to explode this year with career numbers. He also remains a threat to grab the most rebounds in the league each and every year. Surrounding Howard this year are returning stars Hedo Turkoglu, Gilbert Arenas, Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson and J.J. Redick.
